This 10" Kumonryu Butterfly Koi features a rare and eye-catching blue-gray tone layered over a dark base, giving it a cool, water-like appearance that stands out from traditional black-and-white Kumonryu.
The soft blue coloration flows through the body, blending with underlying sumi (black) to create a stormy, shifting pattern reminiscent of moving water or deep currents. This cooler tone gives the koi a more modern, refined look compared to standard high-contrast varieties.
As a Kumonryu, this koi is known for its changing pattern, with sumi that can emerge, fade, and reposition over time. This natural transformation adds long-term visual interest, making the fish feel dynamic and unique as it matures.
The Doitsu (scaleless) body enhances the smooth, fluid appearance, while a subtle dorsal row of scales provides structure without interrupting the overall flow. The butterfly (longfin) trait adds elegance and motion, with extended fins that create a graceful, drifting silhouette in the pond.
At 10 inches, “Tempest” offers both immediate presence and strong growth potential, making it an excellent focal fish for collectors looking for something distinctive, calm-toned, and visually unique.
Kloubec Koi Farm is a family-owned American koi breeder established in 1981. Located on 80 acres with 60 outdoor ponds and a 300,000-gallon indoor facility, we raise our koi on-site and do not import fish for resale. Every koi completes a comprehensive health and quarantine protocol before being offered for sale, and we have never experienced a case of Koi Herpes Virus (KHV).
