Meet “Rusty,” a 9" Beni Kikokuryu Koi with a dramatic mix of fiery orange-red, deep black and brilliant metallic silver.
Rusty’s rich beni runs prominently through the center of the body, surrounded by smoky black pigmentation and reflective metallic areas. The combination creates a striking, almost molten appearance that changes dramatically as the light hits his body.
One of Rusty’s most interesting features is his bold Doitsu scaling. Large scales run along the back, with dark centers and metallic edges that create an almost armor-like texture. Against the orange-red beni, these scales become a major part of his overall look.
Beni Kikokuryu are also known for their changeable sumi, so the intensity and distribution of Rusty’s darker coloration may continue to evolve as he matures.
Rusty does have a small amount of existing fin damage, which is visible in the photos and has been taken into consideration in his price. It doesn't take away from the bold coloration and unusual character that make this koi so eye-catching.
Rusty was bred and raised at Kloubec Koi Farm in Amana, Iowa—we never import koi for resale.
