This 6.5" Kikokuryu Koi has a cool, almost smoky appearance created by its combination of metallic silver skin and charcoal-black sumi.
Rather than displaying sharply defined blocks of black and white, this Kikokuryu has softer dark pigmentation spreading across the head, shoulders and sides. Against the reflective silver ground, the pattern creates an almost brushed-metal appearance that changes depending on the angle of the light.
The Doitsu body adds another layer of interest. A distinctive row of larger scales runs along the dorsal line, while the smoother areas of the body allow the metallic luster and smoky sumi to take center stage.
Kikokuryu are also known for their changeable sumi, so the amount and intensity of black pigmentation can shift as the koi matures. That evolving appearance is part of what makes this variety so interesting to raise.
