Meet “Nova,” a 5.5" Kikokuryu Butterfly Koi with a striking combination of metallic silver, smoky black coloration and dramatic flowing fins.
Nova's bright silver-white metallic ground contrasts beautifully with the dark sumi spreading across the back, head and tail. The darker coloration has an almost charcoal appearance, giving this young koi a bold black-and-silver look.
A row of prominent Doitsu scales runs along the back, adding texture and flashes of metallic shine. Because the remainder of the body is largely scaleless, these larger scales become an especially noticeable part of Nova's appearance.
The Butterfly finnage adds even more drama. Long pectoral fins and an extended tail carry both silvery and dark pigmentation, creating an elegant, smoky appearance in motion.
Kikokuryu are particularly interesting because their black pigmentation can change in intensity and distribution as they mature, meaning Nova's appearance may continue to evolve over time.
Nova was bred and raised at Kloubec Koi Farm in Amana, Iowa—we never import koi for resale.
