Meet “Pepper,” an impressive 22" Jumbo Aka Bekko Butterfly Koi with fiery coloration, dramatic black markings and tremendous pond presence.
Pepper's body is covered in a rich red-orange to copper coloration, creating a vibrant backdrop for the scattered black sumi markings characteristic of Aka Bekko. The dark pattern varies from smaller pepper-like flecks to much larger areas of black, giving this koi a rugged, highly individual appearance from head to tail.
Her Butterfly finnage is particularly dramatic. The oversized pectoral fins and broad flowing tail carry extensive dark coloration, creating an almost smoky appearance as they move through the water. Against the brilliant orange body, those dark fins make Pepper especially striking from above.
And at a full 22 inches, Pepper doesn't need to grow for years before becoming a centerpiece. This is already a substantial Jumbo koi with the body, color and finnage to command attention in a larger pond.
If you're looking for a perfectly symmetrical pattern, Pepper isn't that kind of koi. Her appeal comes from the opposite—bold color, oversized fins, dramatic contrast and a one-of-a-kind pattern that gives her tremendous character.
