This 11" Matsuba Butterfly Koi has a rich, dramatic appearance that immediately separates it from more traditional brightly colored koi.
Deep charcoal-to-black reticulation covers much of the body, creating the distinctive pinecone-like scale pattern associated with Matsuba. Beneath and between the darker scales, warm gold and bronze highlights catch the light, creating an almost glowing effect across the head and dorsal area.
The contrast becomes even more impressive in the fins. Long Butterfly pectorals and an exceptionally extended tail carry dark smoky pigmentation with lighter translucent highlights, giving this koi a graceful but powerful appearance in motion.
At 11", this individual already has excellent presence. Its combination of dark scale definition, warm golden highlights and dramatic long fins makes it an unusual choice for someone looking for a koi that stands apart from the typical red-and-white varieties.
This koi was bred and raised at Kloubec Koi Farm in Amana, Iowa—we never import koi for resale.
